While I wouldn’t call myself a professional photographer by any stretch of the imagination, I do enjoy taking the odd shot and prefer to have the right gear for the job. So with some extra cash from some recent jobs, I picked up a Canon T3i, a 50 mm f/1.4 lens and for extra kicks a MoneyMaker camera harness from HoldFast. Wow. It’s been over a month since my last post. A lot has happened, which would account for my lack of posting. I quit my position of Marketing & Creative Director at the Emelin Theatre. I had been there 4 years and it was time to leave. I will still be doing much of their web and design work on a freelance basis. Judah recently dropped both his management, 3 Arts Entertainment, and agency, The Gersh Agency. A bold, but definitely awesome decision. But really, I am posting this for completely selfish reasons. This past Tuesday night I tagged along with Judah Friedlander and Mick Foley as they ran around the city doing multiple stand-up spots at Gotham Comedy Club, Stand-Up NY and Comic Strip Live. Mick is a physically intimidating dude, which makes sense given that he is one the most brutal professional wrestlers of all time, but in person, he is one of the nicest, most genuine guys you will ever meet. Been almost a month since my last update. I’ve been super busy at the Emelin with the season brochure, playbill and annual benefit invitation all having identical deadlines, not to mention rolling out the entire season and everything that goes along with that. On June 30th, I had the pleasure of photographing Judah Friedlander again. This time at The Comedy Cellar, a great place that Judah says is his favorite place to perform in NY. The room is small and using my new 18-135mm lens was perfect. Gave me a great opportunity to really put it through the paces and get used to it. Back in New York. Trip was awesome and I’m really not quite ready to be back. Definitely would rather be out on Route 1 exploring with Edy. Oh well…that’s the nature of vacations I guess: if you aren’t somewhat sad to be home afterwords, it wasn’t a great trip. Now on to the good stuff. As I mentioned in my last post, I managed to lose my 18-55 mm lens the other day. Oops. On the up side, it gave me an excuse to buy the HUGE step-up: the Canon 18-135 mm. This lens is so much better it’s almost absurd to even try to compare them. If you have the 18-55 and want to treat yourself and not even remotely regret it, pick up the 18-135.
